Eh, I bet it’s mono if they put it on for free. Mono tends to run a little cheaper than fluro line, so that’s what a lot of companies place on the reels, unless advised by the buyer to put something different on the reel.
Just go back or call ( ask for that specific associate) and ask. It would have taken ya less time by phone than asking this question here.A quick test is to take a section about 12 inches long and stretch it out. If it feels somewhat like a rubber band stretching it’s probably mono. If it’s hard to stretch out, chances are it’s fluoro. Also, flouro comes mostly in clear so if you have yellow, pink, smoke, green or some other color, it’s probably mono. This isn’t always true because some manufacturers have added some color to their fluoro, sooo…. Another quick test is to take about 2 inches of of line that you know is mono ( same diameter/ pound test) and take a same sized clip of the questioned line. Drop them both into a cup of water. Fluoro sinks fast, mono sorta floats before it sinks. All in all, just to be 100% sure, go back to where it was spooled and ask.~good luck catchin’.
-If it was ‘free’, it’s mono ……. absolutely, for certain, without a doubt.
It was mono. To fill a spool with fluoro would be far too expensive to do for free.
Go back to where you bought it and just ask what kind of line it is, what pound test it is, because you would need to know what pound test it is before you start to fish. More than likely it is just regular monofilament, unless they had some kind of special that you would get fluorocarbon line put on it when you buy the reel.
To explain the difference that is something that is hard to do, because it would leave some people scratching their head and saying in their head what did they just say. Because there is fluorocarbon lines that are colored other than just clear.
i would call the place you bought it, and simply ask. as a customer you have the right to know, and as a fellow fisherman, i would most likely just strip it all off and put some nice line on there. (maybe its just me?) I have 10 or so fishing poles, handlines, etc, and everything i have is spooled with some sort of high performance line. i use a wide variety based on available colors, brands such as power pro, spider wire, fire wire, and sonic braid, i have different sizes of all. the braids are nice because you get more strength out of thinner line. for example, the 65 lb test power pro on my saltwater boat rods (for cod and haddock) is the same diameter as 16 lb monofilament. and it doesnt stretch when a fish hits it 150-250′ down. i usually use vanish for leaders though, which is floro carbon. tight lines
i would bet mono. even after buying a daiwa zillion ($270+) at bps, they spooled it with mono.
